Konecranes x Process Genius
Konecranes had been following the world of machine tools for almost 25 years, and there was a clear change in what customers, regardless of the size of the company, wanted from their service providers. In recent years, questions had also repeatedly arisen, asking “How can we visualise production?” or “How can digitalisation be seen at Konecranes?”
The solution to these challenges was partnering up with Process Genius. The partnership started in 2021 with the invention of the Smart Factory. It builds on the technological expertise offered by Process Genius and the substantive expertise of Konecranes. Smart Factory was tested by implementing it at the Konecranes factory in Hyvinkää, Finland, with good results.

The app has also helped to catch up on lost hours. In practice, waste hours were caused by things like set-up times, waiting times, minor alarms and other production disruptions. Today, we can get to the source of wasted hours and, where possible, reduce wasted periods and make process improvements.
It turned out that no one had just one system in place, but all had to use a number of different systems to gather information about what was happening in their own plant. In addition, there were many different needs at different levels of the factory. There were also different digital twins already in use and different portals, but no one had a complete picture available in one place.
The Smart Factory solution combines Konecranes’ deep industry knowledge and expertise with Process Genius’ technological know-how to transform the entire manufacturing industry.
